I wonder what you are waiting for? That might seem a strange question to ask as Christmas was over a month ago and the endless month of January is about to end, yet in the Church calendar of marking different events recorded in the Bible, we celebrated Candlemass on Sunday, where Jesus is presented as a baby in the temple according to the law at the time. It is in the temple that Mary and Joseph meet Simeon and Anna who have been waiting a long time to see Jesus. They knew their scripture and knew God had promised a saviour, a rescuer and that they would one day meet him. They waited and waited and waited for the day when they would see God’s son.
So, I wonder what you are waiting for? Is it warmer weather and the more hours of daylight? Is it the half term week in February? Are you waiting for test results or waiting for new medication? Are you waiting for news of a new baby being born in the family or waiting for a loved one to return home?
Just like Simeon and Anna were waiting we too are all waiting for different things to happen – some will be good and others not so much, yet in all this God promises to be with us and walks alongside us in the wonderful times as well as in the terrible times.
Loving God
Be with us as we journey through life in the good times and the bad. May we remember to look to you and to know that you are there with us as we wait. Amen
