John 13 34 “A new command I give you: Love one another. As I have loved you, so you must love one another. 35 By this everyone will know that you are my disciples, if you love one another.”
On a good day, I can remember every service station in order all the way up the M1 and M6 to Liverpool. This sad skill is because of the many years of driving up and down to my childhood home of the Wirral.
I’ve been doing this route very regularly over the past month as sadly my dad and Sally had a car accident which resulted in Sal being in hospital for the last 4 weeks and my dad coping on his own at home. A life changing, challenging time for them and a time to be surrounded by love, care and support at every turn.
We read John 13 v 34 commanding us to love one another. It's 3 words. In the last month has been a special time to see what those 3 words look like and feel like.
From the nurses and doctors and the incredible staff caring for Sal in the hospital, the people who I’ve asked to visit, to drive, to shop, to care, to pray, to clean, to chat and to just be present.
Love one another as I have loved you.
Church family, friends, & neighbours have poured out their love day after day, week after week. Willing, generous and reliable.
Love one another as I have loved you.
When I stop off at a service station, areas where drivers can leave a motorway to refuel/recharge & rest, I am reminded of the many, many lovely people who are refueling, recharging and serving our family.
Love one another as I have loved you.
It’s wonderful to see Dad and Sal progressing and recovering. Thank you every one, for being love.
And next time you stop at a service station for a snack or run to the restroom, be reminded of Jesus’ command to love one another.
By giving rest, recharge or a place to refuel, it is by this that everyone will know that we are his disciples.
