Today is the start of the season of Epiphany – the manifestation of the gospel to the Gentiles. As we welcome the wise travellers to the nativity scene and wonder at their role in this amazing series of events we’ve participated in over Christmas, we marvel with them at the gift of God to all humanity presented in Jesus.
More so, we hear within their gifts to Jesus the call to look forward, to look beyond the manger and the baby to this promised Messiah who will become the means by which everyone is liberated and made whole; the means by which all of God’s creation is saved. To have confidence that God who has been with us thus far will be with us every day and for ever.
As we put away the Christmas decorations and turn the page into this new season let’s do so affirming our faith in God who leads us on in this adventure of life and faith.
Creator of the heavens,
who led the Magi by a star to worship the Christ-child;
guide and sustain us,
that we may find our journey’s end
in Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen
