Are you ready for Christmas?

As Advent begins I’m well aware that many will have already completed their Christmas shopping, and planning for Christmas Day is well underway. Others, like me, are much slower out of the starting blocks. Part of that is due to the busyness of this season, part is due to the fact I’m more motivated by a deadline than I care to admit.

One of the challenges many face is choosing the right gifts.

Here’s a thought. If you are stuck for a gift idea for the friend or relative who seems to have everything, how about sponsoring a St Peter’s chair for them? Ask them to choose the inscription for the plaque and you’ll do the rest. Details are here.

In whichever ways you are planning to celebrate this amazing and wonder-filled festival do take time during this Advent season to prepare. Not just the presents and planning, but the preparations that open our hearts and lives to receive the most extraordinary gift this world has ever been given.

An Advent Prayer

Who are we, Lord God,

that you should come to us?

Yet you have visited your people and redeemed us in your Son.

As we prepare to celebrate his birth,

make our hearts leap for joy at the sound of your Word.

That in all our hopes, our plans and our preparations,

your gift of love may be known to all. Amen.
